Item name: Seraphim Shawl

Designer: Miriam L. Felton

Yarn used: Yarn Treehouse Melody 4 ply, fingering weight

Colour: Y07 Purplegreen

From: Friend

Yardage: 5 skeins = 1100.2 yards (1006.0m)

Needles: 4 mm circular

Method: Knitting to and fro

Notes: I enjoyed knitting this shawl, and made it quite a bit larger than the pattern said.  I knew I would have enough yarn to finish it.  It’s lovely to wrap yourself in the shawl.

Item name: Swallowtail Shawl

Designer: Evelyn A. Clark, Interweave Knits Fall 2006

Yarn used: Lei 4 ply

Colour: Brood

From: Posh Yarn

Yardage: 1 skeins = 350.0 yards (320.0m)

Needles: 4 mm circular

Method: Knitting to and fro

Notes: I enjoy this shawl greatly, I did not do the nups as I knew I would

not have enough yarn.  I also liked the idea of beads after seeing

some photographs of beaded Swallowtail shawls.

the Lei is a beautiful yarn to use and my other skein of this yarn will

be made into another shawl, not the socks I’d thought of.

Item name: Chocolate Shawl

Designer: Susan Sharpe

Yarn used: Lucia 4 ply

Colour: Chocolate raspberries

From: Posh Yarn

Yardage: 3 skeins = 1080.0 yards (987.6m)

Needles: 4 mm circular

Method: Knitting to and fro

Notes: Dee and Tony from Posh Yarn dyed this yarn to the colours

that I’d asked for. I used a provisional cast on and knitted a

feather and fan pattern until I was nearly out of yarn. I then

cast off placing beads in cast off loops to make an edging.

I then picked up the stitches from the provisional cast on and

finished with loops of cast off and beads as before.

Item name: Pi Shawl

Designer: Elizabeth Zimmermann

Yarn used: Baruffa Cashwool

Colour: Olive

From: Pavi Yarns, Alnwick

Yardage: 1 skeins = 1460.0 yards (1335.0m)

Needles: 4 mm circulars and dpns

Method: Knitting in the round increasing needle size as the sitiches

increase

Notes: This was the first time I have used lace weight yarn, and chose

a basic pattern, but one that would look good.  The obvious

choice was the Pi Shawl by Elizabeth Zimmermann.  I added the

feather and fan pattern round the edge, and then finished with the

garter stitch border, again by Elizabeth Zimmermann.

Item name: Icarus Shawl

Designer: Miriam Felton

Yarn used: Cecilia lace yarn

Colour: Rthythm

From: Posh Yarn

Yardage: 1 skein, 1300.0 yards (1188.7m)

Needles: 60cm x 4.mm lace circulars

Method: To and fro on lace circular

Notes: My first attempt at a “proper” lace pattern, charted. Very

enjoyable, and one I will do again, would like to try it in a

thicker yarn. Do like the beads to add a little extra to it.
